Sutton High School is an educational environment where the quality and upkeep of its facilities play an important part in the everyday experience of pupils and staff.
As with any busy school estate, spaces that are used regularly need ongoing investment to ensure they remain welcoming, practical and fit for purpose. The school’s indoor swimming pool was one such area, requiring targeted refurbishment works to refresh the environment while retaining the character and functionality of the existing facility.
TB Fit Out was tasked with carrying out refurbishment works to improve the appearance and usability of Sutton High School’s indoor swimming pool.
Rather than undertaking unnecessary alterations, the project focused on the areas where investment could make a meaningful difference: redecorating the pool walls and replacing the existing poolside benches.
The objective was simple but important — to give a well-used educational facility a cleaner, brighter and more cared-for appearance, while improving the poolside environment for the pupils and staff who use it.
The educational refurbishment works included:
The newly decorated white walls provide a clean contrast against the pool’s existing purple feature wall, while the replacement black benches create a consistent finish around the poolside.
Not every refurbishment needs to involve completely redesigning a space.
For schools in particular, targeted refurbishment can be an effective way of extending the useful life of existing facilities while improving the experience of the people using them.
At Sutton High School, refreshing the walls and replacing tired poolside seating has helped give the swimming pool a renewed sense of quality without changing what already worked well.
The brighter finishes make the space feel cleaner and more welcoming, while the new benches provide practical seating for pupils during lessons, swimming activities and other use of the facility.
Importantly, the refurbishment also helps demonstrate continued investment in the school environment. Pupils may spend only part of their day in spaces such as sports facilities, but their condition contributes to the overall impression of the school and how cared for those using it feel.
The completed swimming pool refurbishment has provided Sutton High School with a brighter, smarter and more welcoming sports environment while preserving the distinctive features of the existing building.
It is a good example of how considered educational refurbishment does not always require major structural intervention. Identifying where improvements will have the greatest impact can transform the appearance and feel of an existing facility while making effective use of the school's investment.
For TB Fit Out, the project demonstrates the breadth of our work as an educational refurbishment contractor, from focused maintenance and improvement projects through to larger-scale refurbishments of classrooms, communal areas, staff spaces and wider educational facilities.
Ultimately, the success of the project is in its simplicity: a well-used facility refreshed for the people who use it every day.
