Paladone is a product design and manufacturing business creating consumer products, gifts and merchandise. As the business and its workplace requirements have evolved, so too has the way its existing space needs to perform.
TB Fit Out has previously worked with Paladone to transform disused loading bays into a high-specification commercial showroom, creating a dedicated customer-facing environment for showcasing its products.
That transformation also created an opportunity to reconsider Paladone's former showroom. Rather than leave valuable commercial floorspace underused, the area could be given a completely new purpose – this time focused on Paladone's people, meetings and collaboration.
TB Fit Out was tasked with converting Paladone's former showroom into multiple dedicated meeting rooms, transforming a space originally designed around product display into a practical suite of working environments.
It is a good example of how effective office refurbishment and space planning can respond to changing business requirements without necessarily requiring additional floorspace.
The challenge was not simply to divide the existing room. Each new meeting space needed to work as an individual environment, with the appropriate lighting, power, heating, cooling and fresh air provision alongside comfortable finishes.
The objective was to give Paladone a meeting suite that could support the everyday needs of its teams while making considerably better use of an existing part of its property.
As the fit out contractor, TB Fit Out coordinated the different construction, mechanical and electrical elements required to repurpose the former showroom.
Works included:
Coordinating these services was an important part of the commercial office fit out. Creating additional rooms changes how a space is occupied and used, so the building services needed to work with the new layout rather than simply retaining arrangements designed for the former showroom.
The strongest part of this project is not simply what was added. It is how completely the purpose of the existing space changed.
What had once been designed to showcase products has become a suite of dedicated meeting environments where Paladone's people can come together, communicate and work away from the main office environment.
Partitioning established the new layout, but the transformation depended on looking at the space as a whole. Lighting, power, ventilation, temperature control, flooring, ceilings and decoration all needed to work together to create rooms that felt intentional rather than simply divided.
For Paladone, this meant making better use of space already available within its premises while creating additional workplace capacity where it was needed.
Meeting rooms can occupy a relatively small proportion of a workplace, but their impact on the working day can be significant.
Providing multiple dedicated rooms gives teams greater choice over where different conversations take place. It creates space away from the distractions of open working areas and provides more appropriate environments for meetings that require concentration, privacy or collaboration.
For Paladone, the new meeting room suite provides:
There is also a broader lesson in the project. As organisations change, their property does not necessarily need to become larger – but it often needs to become more adaptable.
Good space planning, office design and refurbishment can identify areas that no longer serve their original purpose and turn them into spaces that address what a business needs now.
The completed meeting room refurbishment has transformed Paladone's former showroom into a practical suite of spaces designed around communication, collaboration and everyday working requirements.
For Paladone's people, the benefit is tangible: more dedicated places to meet, discuss ideas and concentrate, supported by the lighting, power and environmental comfort those spaces require.
For the business, the project demonstrates the value that can be unlocked from its existing property. Together with TB Fit Out's earlier transformation of disused loading bays into Paladone's new high-specification commercial showroom, the two projects show how existing commercial space can be reimagined rather than simply replaced.
One former space gained a new customer-focused purpose. Another became focused on Paladone's people.
As a design and build contractor and fit out contractor, this is where considered refurbishment delivers its greatest value: understanding what a client needs from its space now, then bringing together office design, space planning, building services and commercial refurbishment to make that change work in practice.
The result for Paladone is not simply more meeting rooms. It is a workplace that makes better use of the space it already has.
